“Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos!”
DC Collectibles unleashed onto this unsuspecting dimension the latest addition to its line of DC Comics Bombshells statues, Trigon’s daughter…Raven!
Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, Raven made her comic book debut in “DC Comics Presents…” #26 in October of 1980 alongside Cyborg, Starfire and a revamped Beast Boy now going by the name of “Changeling.” The four would join the already established Robin, Kid Flash and Wonder Girl in the Teen Titans, in the groups new title “The NEW Teen Titans.”
DC Collectibles new statue is based on artist Ant Lucia’s Bombshells designs. Measuring 10.5 inches in height, Raven is posed floating above the statue’s base. Much like the Cheetah, Halloween edition Batgirl and Harley Quinn Bombshells statues before her, Raven has a bunch of small details that really add to the statue, like her purple hooded cape that turns translucent at the ends and her horned headband (just a casual reminder of the demon that lurks inside).
Sculpted by Tim Miller, Raven’s posed with one hand beckoning you forward while the other hand holds a translucent spell. She sports a 40s version of the classic costume: purple bodysuit (with light blue piping), purple cape and long purple gloves. Added to the design are fishnet stockings and high heels.
What really makes this statue is Raven seemingly “floating” above the base. Tim Miller did an excellent job interpreting Lucia’s designs, cleverly using her trademark cape to support the figure. The pose really comes together when the translucent-ness of the cape is factored in.
Many thanks to the folks at DC Collectibles for providing the sample for review
