Diamond Select Toys recently introduced a new addition to its Gallery line of PVC figures, Black Canary from Cartoon Network’s 2004 animated series, “Justice League Unlimited.”
Created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino, Black Canary made her DC Comics debut in the pages of “Flash”#86, back in August of 1947. Over the years, Canary’s gone by any number of aliases, from Dinah Drake-Lance to Dinah Laurel Lance. And in JLU series, simply going by Dinah Lance.
DST’s new PVC figure is based on the character’s appearance in the sequel to Cartoon Network’s über popular “Justice League” animated series “Justice League Unlimited.” Voiced by Morena Baccarin (“Gotham,” “Deadpool”), Black Canary debuted in the premiere episode of the revamped series, “Initiation.”
Standing 9 inches in height, the new statue features Canary in a stylized version of her classic costume: short blue jacket, black bodysuit, grey tights (sadly no fishnet stockings for this version of Canary) and black boots.
Sculpted by Varner Studios, Dinah’s posed standing her ground, with the concrete street crumbling around her. There’s a dynamic element to the statue; Canary’s clearly employing her sonic Canary cry causing her blonde hair and blue jacket to blow behind her.
The figure is a great tribute to the “Justice League Unlimited” character. And fits in scale with DST’s other Gallery figures (as well as their Femme Fatales line). With the prices of statues continuing to rise, it’s a great (read: affordable) way to own the character.
Many thanks to DST for providing the sample for review.
