In a little bit of a surprise move, Disney recently released a new line of figures available only at Disney Stores and Disney related websites. Called Toybox, the new line of figures borrows from the figurines included in the now defunct Disney Infinity video game.
Debuting in late 2013, Disney Infinity capitalized on the growing “toys to life” gaming phenomenon with an action/adventure game that brought stylized versions of Disney characters to life. Each starter pack included the game, base and a few collectible figurines. The figurines measuring about two inches in height, were sadly inarticulate. But, man…did they ever scream for at the least some basic articulation.
After three years and three updates, Disney Infinity was officially set out to pasture in 2016. But, as it turns out, Disney wasn’t entirely done with the concept just yet. A few days before the Toybox’s official November 3, 2017 release date, Disney revealed the new toy line to the world.
The new Toybox figures, based on the Disney Infinity figurines, stand 4 inches in height (compared to the Infinity’s 2 inch scale) and boast 14 points of articulation. Disney didn’t just release a handful of figures, either. They reached into their biggest properties and pulled out the likes of Rey, Kylo Ren and First Order Stormtrooper from Star Wars, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor from Marvel and Buzz, Woody and Jessie from Pixar’s Toy Story.
