Selena Gomez’s Livestream Cut Short by Flood of Fan Support in the Form of Virtual Gifts and Money
Selena Gomez had to abruptly end a livestream due to an outpouring of support from her fans in the form of virtual gifts and money. The outpouring of generosity was so overwhelming that it caused technical difficulties for the stream. The pop star expressed her gratitude to fans for their love and support before ending the livestream.
If there was any doubt in your mind about Selena Gomez’s kind and gentle nature, her latest actions should put those doubts to rest. The former Disney Channel star just proved yet again that she’s one of the sweetest people in the entertainment industry:
Selena Gomez was caught off guard during a livestream on TikTok last year when she noticed her followers sending her virtual gifts in the form of filters on her face. She quickly realized that these filters were not free and fans had to pay money to send them. These gifts would then split the money between the host of the livestream and TikTok.
The star expressed her confusion about why anyone would pay money to send someone a filter, let alone a wealthy celebrity like herself. “Thank you for the filters,” she said to her viewers. “Is it true that people give you money when you’re live?” She asked her friends, who confirmed that fans were indeed sending her real money. “But, like, fake money?” Selena exclaimed in disbelief.

Selena Gomez was taken aback when she discovered that fans were sending her real money during a livestream. The two-time Grammy nominated artist and one of the most famous women in Hollywood panicked, saying “No, I don’t want people to do that, though!” and “No, no, no, no. If there’s anything that’s, like, paying, please do not. That’s so messed up!” Her friends quickly reassured her that the money was indeed real.
In the midst of the confusion, a friend suggested that Selena could redirect the money towards a cause that was important to her. Without hesitation, Selena exclaimed “Oh, the Rare Impact Fund! The Rare Impact Fund that I’ve done is really important to me.” The fund, which aims to raise $100 million over ten years, focuses on improving mental health services and education for young people around the world.
Addressing her fans directly, Selena implored “I hope nobody is giving me anything that they don’t need to, because I just wanted to do this for fun and have some time with everyone.”
